Ski Tour of the I World War 1915/18

pista con montagna tramonto

The Ski area CIVETTA links the villages of Alleghe, Palafavera, Zoldo and Selva di Cadore through over 72 km of slopes by means of most modern lifts. The totality of the slopes are covered by programmed snow machines, so that the ski area is always working. The Ski Tour of the I World War could be realized thanks to the ski bus connection from Ski Civetta to Passo Giau/5 Torri and the one from Ski Civetta to Malga Ciapela/Marmolada. During the winter season the Ski Tour is a weekly appointment for groups of expert and middle skiers who clockwise and counterclockwise, with ski or snowboard use to do it, so that this became in the years an excellent alternative to the classic Sellaronda ski tour. The route proceeds under the walls of the most beautiful Dolomites (Civetta, Pelmo, Nuvolao-Averau, Cinque Torri, Tofane, Lagazuoi, Fanis, Conturines, Sasso Croce, Settsass, Sassongher, Sella and Marmolada) and the epicenter is the symbol of the I World War: the Col di Lana mountain, around which the Ski Tour leads. The most experienced tour leader can show you war-findings, sprint-ditches in the rock, tunnels, bunkers and everything, which Italian and German soldiers built, to defend themselves from the enemy and the bad weather during wartime. The panorama, that one enjoys during the round-trip changes constantly and it will gratify the tourist completely. You will be enchanted by the silence of the nature along the slope Lagazuoi-Armentarola at the end of which the horse sledge will make you really enjoy, and last but not least you will be astonished by the huge ice walls of the “great canyon” called the "Serrai di Sottoguda".
